Watch Meerkats' Reaction After Meeting a Sausage Dog For The First Time

A group of Meerkats standing on their hind legs

A video of a gang of meerkats reacting to meeting a sausage dog for the first time has gone viral on social media. The funny clip, shared on TikTok by @everythingsausage earlier this month shows the meerkats gathering in front of the dachshund, who was just as excited to see them. The London Zoo meerkats are then seen standing upright and getting closer and closer to the glass as if trying to get to the dog.

The humorous video, which is captioned, "Meerkats meeting their sausage king," has made thousands of social media users laugh. Maybe the dachshund's elongated shape reminds the meerkats of themselves, and perhaps that's why they took such special interest in him as if he was one of them, or indeed their "sausage king," as the video's caption suggests. On the contrary, meerkats do this to scare off predators. It is one of their survival tactics, according to National Geographic. Sometimes, this tactic fools a predator into thinking they are a single large, vicious animal, according to National Geographic.

Dachshunds are incredibly popular worldwide partly due to their unusual body shape, which also causes them a variety of health issues. Meerkats, on the other hand, are super cute small mongooses known for their upright posture. By all accounts, meerkats stand on their hind legs so they can see their enemies better. A meerkat mob, according to San Diego Zoo, may stand together to look larger, acting fierce to discourage a predator, or sometimes they stir up dust to create a cover.
