Loyal Dog Runs After Ambulance Carrying His Sick Owner Until EMT Lets Him Inside

A loyal dog following an ambulance

A heartwarming video making the rounds on social media shows a devoted dog running after an ambulance carrying his sick owner. The EMT driving the ambulance quickly stopped to let the dog inside the vehicle when he realized what was happening. The dog, named Tono, was reunited with his sick owner, Alejandro, inside the ambulance.

The devoted dog refused to be left behind when his owner suddenly fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. Tono, determined to be by his owner's side, escaped from the house and chased the ambulance all the way from Villa de Leyva, a Colombian town northeast of Bogotá, to Tunja—a distance of virtually 25 miles. According to News18, Tono was able to exit the house because the ambulance team forgot to close the house’s door. Tono’s determination underscores his loyalty to his owner. In addition, it shows just how deep their connection runs.

A motorcyclist following the ambulance captured the heartwarming moment on camera and signaled the EMT staff to stop, according to News18. However, one Reddit user suggests it may have actually been Tono's sick owner, aware of his best friend’s devotion, who suspected Tono was chasing after them and alerted the emergency staff.

Either way, the EMT staff's compassion and understanding meant the loyal dog could be by his owner’s side. Alejandro having Tono by his side during such a stressful moment likely provided him with crucial comfort and may have even helped save his life.

The short clip, which was posted to the subreddit r/AnimalsBeingBros 11 days ago, has since received over 175 thousand upvotes and 1,700 comments. Check it out below!
