Canada has no federal law banning or restricting particular dog breeds. That said, some provinces and municipalities in Canada prohibit or restrict certain dog breeds deemed dangerous in their bylaws. The Province of Ontario, for example, banned pit bulls in 2005. Viking, Alberta

In Viking, a town in central Alberta, any dog commonly known as a Pit Bull or Pit Bull Terrier is restricted, according to the Town's website.

Winnipeg, Manitoba

In the province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg has breed-specific legislation against American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. According to Winnipeg's website, no Pit Bull may be brought into the city of Winnipeg.

Thompson, Manitoba

Pit Bulls, regardless of age, are banned in the City of Thompson, Manitoba. According to the City's Consolidated By-law 1865-2012, an Animal Control Officer has the authority to seize and impound any Pit Bull Dog found within the City. However, a person may temporarily keep a pit bull in the city only for show purposes.

Burnaby, British Columbia

In the City of Burnaby, British Columbia, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Pit Bull Terriers are declared vicious. All vicious dog owners in the city are required by law to keep their vicious canines muzzled while on a highway, park, or other public place. Additionally, every vicious dog owner in Burnaby should, while the dog is on their premises, keep their dog securely confined either indoors, or within a fenced yard in an enclosure that is capable of preventing inadvertent entry by any person including a child.

Salisbury, New Brunswick

Pit bulls or bull terriers are banned in Salisbury, a town located in Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada. According to the Town's bylaw, residents are prohibited from owing any dog commonly known as a pit bull or bull terrier.

Antigonish County, Nova Scotia

 Pit bulls, pit bull terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, or American Staffordshire terriers are considered "restricted dogs" in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Canada. According to Antigonish County's dog control bylaw, every owner of a restricted dog should register that dog with the Municipal Clerk. In addition, all restricted dogs, when off their owner's premises, are required to be securely muzzled and leashed or harnessed to prevent them from attacking or biting a person or animal.
