An Australian Shepherd Named Lady Pinto Bean Becomes a Sword-Fighting Sensation

Lady Pinto Bean the Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherds are known for their desire to work and to please their humans, and they'll do anything to protect them. While they are not usually bred for guarding, Australian Shepherds can still make good watchdogs and be trained to protect their owners. One Australian Shepherd named Lady Pinto Bean won't just make a good watchdog for her owners, she'll go to battle for them—with her own sword. Bean playing sword fighting with her owners, Anna and Luke, is the cutest thing to watch!

In a recent viral Instagram video shared by Bean's owners, the talented canine is seen doing what she does best—play sword fighting magnificently. Watch Lady Pinto Bean get at it!

As one of the most hard-working breeds of dogs with energy to spare, Aussies like Lady Bean aren't only willing to learn new skills but they thrive on it. Generally, Australian Shepherds excel at every task and are happiest when they have a "job" to perform. They excel at training too. Australian Shepherds are very smart and eager to please, which makes them excellent "students." Moreover, Aussies are high-energy dogs, so teaching them tricks like sword fighting, for example, tap into that stored energy, and use it for good. Otherwise, they may become bored and act out through destructive behaviors.

When asked "How did you train your dog to fight with a sword," Anna and Luke replied with a video with a caption that reads: "We’ll probably be answering this question for the rest of our days, but the truth is she trained herself because she knew she could do better than us."

Anna and Luke have been making TikTok videos since 2020, and they love to incorporate stage combat into their videos. Their Australian Shepherd has been watching them pretend-fight with fake swords for pretty much her whole life and as a result, the dog decided one day she wanted in. According to The Dodo, the couple was out in a field filming a new video when their Australian Shepherd noticed a very large stick laying nearby, and she swiftly seized the opportunity.

"She picked up the stick and started chasing me down," Anna told The Dodo, adding that the dog was waving the stick around like it was her own sword. According to Anna, Pinto Bean had learned how to do all of that just by watching them, so they provided her with her own sword and the rest is history.
