Dogs, just like us, have distinct personalities. While some dogs are known to be expert couch potatoes, others need a job. The Australian Shepherd is one of those dogs that are happiest when they have a job to do. That's because Aussies are high-energy dogs bred to herd livestock. When kept as a house dog, an Aussie needs to be given a job to prevent boredom.
If there is no livestock to herd, most Australian Shepherds are trained to help their owners around the house. One Astute Aussie named Sam is going viral for his zest for housework. Sam is a Miniature Australian Shepherd who loves nothing more than being his owner's little helper. This young bundle of energy and enthusiasm understands the assignment when his owner asks for help with the dishes. In a video from July 9, Sam impressed over 2 million viewers with his incredible talent for doing chores. This brilliant Aussie loads the dishwasher better than most of us.
Fascinatingly, Sam does it with excitement. Anabel, Sam's owner, got the idea to teach her pup how to do the dishes after receiving a comment online. According to the dog mom, all the utensils used in the video, which is available to watch below, were clean. She revealed in the comment section of the video that she bought the utensils only for training Sam, who wasted no time putting them to use. Not only does this smart dog understand where to place the utensils, but he can even put not one but two pans in easily. And if that's not impressive enough, Sam also understands when it's time to pull out the top rack for a mug.
This intelligent dog is still not done, however. After waiting for Anabel to load the dish soap, the video shows Sam helping her close the door. Once everything is in place, Sam gives Anabel a high five to celebrate a job well done. Some viewers joked in the comment section that Sam can load the dishwasher better than their roommates.
Anabel and Sam live in Miami, Florida. According to Anabel, Sam is her first dog and it's been quite a journey since she welcomed him. Initially, Anabel says she was scared because she knew little about raising a dog. But she's been learning daily with Sam, and the more she learns, the more she realizes how little she knows.
The dog mom says she is frequently approached by neighbors or random people asking for training services. "I always explain that I'm not a professional trainer," she says. However, Anabel understands that people see Sam as a well-behaved dog, which she takes as a compliment for her daily work with him. To Anabel, Sam is an amazing dog, but far from perfect. However, she is proud of what they have achieved, learning from each other.
Sam and Anabel have an Instagram following of over 1.5 million.
